  • o or theke lomba - That person is taller than that person.
  • o er theke lomba - That person is taller than this person.
  • lomba - tall, long
  • o er theke bete - That person is shorter than this person.
  • o er theke kɔm lomba - That person is less tall than this person.
  • er theke kɔm kɔra jabe na - 'It cannot be less than this;' said by shopkeeper when negotiating a price
    • kɔra - do (V)
    • jabe - will go
  • ami kubh [McCabe] jai - I go to McCabe a lot.
  • ami ghɔnɔ ghɔnɔ [McCabe] jai - I frequently go to McCabe.
  • ami [McCabe] jaʈchi - I am going to McCabe.
  • ami [Parrish](-er) theke [McCabe] jaʈchi. - I am going from Parrish to McCabe. (-er is optional in speech but not in writing; however -er is obligatory both in speech and in writing for pronouns.)
  • ghɔnɔ jol - 'concentrated water' (water with a lot of drink mix in it)
  • ami [McCabe]-er bhetor-e ghurchi - I am walking around McCabe (inside).
  • ami [McCabe]-er bajre ghurchi - I am walking around McCabe (outside).
    • bhetor - inside
    • bhetor-e - on the inside
    • bajre - outside
    • bajre - on the outside (!)
  • ɔy lok-ʈa ʃɔbce lomba - That person is the tallest.
  • lok - person
  • ɔy lok-ʈa ʃɔbce bete - That person is the shortest.
  • ɔy lok-ʈa ʃɔbar theke bete - That person is the shortest out of everyone.
  • ʃɔbay - everyone
  • ʃɔbay-er > ʃɔbar
  • ʃɔbay-er ce > ʃɔbce
  • The following strings all have the same meaning and are all acceptable in speech, though the shorter forms are preferred.

    • ʃɔbay-er theke
    • ʃɔbar theke
    • ʃɔb theke
    • ʃɔbce

  • ami [McCabe]-er bhetor-e jai - I go into McCabe.
  • ami [McCabe]-er bajre jai - I go out of McCabe.
  • beral-ʈa [table]-er opor-e lapae - The cat jumps onto the table.
  • beral-ʈa [table](-er) theke lapae - The cat jumps off of the table. (-er is optional.)
  • beral-ʈa [table]-e theke lapae - The cat lives on the table, jumps. (The cat living on the table jumps.)
  • beral-ʈa [table]-e thakte thakte lapae - The cat living on the table jumps.
  • [table]-e thakte thakte o kuʃi holo - Living on the table, s/he became happy.
  • thakte and theke are forms of the verb thaka 'stay'.
